The Newlywed's Guide to Homeownership

THE...Lets conjoin our stuff, and throw in an extremely generous amount of wedding gifts

I don't know if I would still consider myself a newlywed (My wife and I are one year 6 months and 18 days into our marriage) but I can say for a fact that being a Newlywed and feeling the pressures of what comes with that doesn't make the process of purchasing, or even leasing a home together much easier.

Fortunately when we leased our first property in Old Town Orange, the stars seemed to align and everything came together beautifully. Seeing as my wife and I are "oldschool" we signed the lease to our property, and my wife moved in the beginning of April to Newlywed "nest" and I was to follow after the big day on July 19th.

We conjoined our mismatched furniture, my furniture obviously being a bit more mismatched then hers, an extremely generous amount of wedding gifts and started our lives as a unit, in a one bedroom one bathroom "unit" above the garage. Suprising most of our family we lasted longer then any of them thought we would 1 year 9 months.

NOW....the let's buy a property in this market, but we want to stay in the area where we we currently live problem...

If you know Chelsea and I enough, you know that we are both very focused, passionate, driven, and sometimes impulsive people. We decided that it was time to expand our horizons and see what was out there for us, whether that be purchasing an investment property, condo, single family residence,or leasing again I leaded the process to start figuring out what we were going to do. With a background in Real Estate....I have the ability to streamline this process. We began the loan approval process...and Chelsea gave me a 5 mile radius from the Orange Circle to stay in. Needless to say we searched, but everything was either out of our pricepoint, or the investment properties were to much work for what we wanted to do to make it financially viable for us. We ultimately decided to continue saving and, lease a property that was larger in size in the are where we wanted to live and continue the hunt at a later date. That being said we did find a property to lease and decided to move in a matter of 7 days, it was chaos but we did it!

Being in Real Estate, you would think my first response to anyone looking to purchase a property is to buy, buy, buy, oh yeah and don't forget to use me as your Realtor...But in all honesty my wife and I are a prime example that if your not ready to purchase, whether being a newylwed or not, you have options, it's ok to lease for another year, and my hope would be when the time is right I could help assist you in whatever route you are choosing to go, lease, buy, sell, couch surf ( I know a great website for couch surfing)

Enjoy what life has for you, timing plays a big part in everything, don't sweat the small stuff, and with every step forward you make have to take a few back, but life is a journey, as my mother-in-law Jenny says, "Nothing Ventured,Nothing Gained" There isn't a statement much truer then that.

Until Next time...
